City of Arroyo Grande

Development in Arroyo Grande

Housing, commercial and civic projects in the city where our office sits, with the status each one had when its records were last reviewed.

Building in Arroyo Grande

Arroyo Grande is an incorporated city in San Luis Obispo County, and its land-use decisions run through the City: the Community Development Department reviews applications, the Planning Commission and City Council hear the larger ones, and the Building Division issues the permits. Our office is on Traffic Way, a few blocks from the Village, so most of the places on this page are a short drive away.

Development here tends to follow the city's two commercial spines. East Grand Avenue carries the shopping centers, offices and highway-serving businesses; East Branch Street runs through the Village, where buildings are older and smaller and any change has to fit its neighbors. Housing fills in around both, from infill lots and accessory units to larger subdivisions on the city's edges.

This guide selects projects from the city's own records and public hearing materials. It is not a complete permit register: single-family remodels, roofs, water heaters and similar minor permits are left out on purpose, and the research notes a gap in minor-work and 2026 housing coverage for Arroyo Grande that is described on the methodology page.
